On the 14th of December 1874 the company „Rheinische Röhrendampfkesselfabrik AUGUST BÜTTNER & CO.“ was registered at the district court in Uerdingen (now part of the city Krefeld). The founder August Büttner started the company with 12 employees in a workshop near the Rhein river. The BÜTTNER water-tube boilers were so successful that bigger properties were purchased and more manufacturing facilities were built. At the end of the 19th century BÜTTER had 250 workers employed. In the year 1903 BÜTTNER officially started building drying plants.
